The Government's Pledge To Do More For Dyslexics

Well, let’s celebrate the good news - the British Government are spending more to help dyslexia. But, now for the bad news - they are doing even more of what has already proven to be a huge disappointment.

Research has shown that extra phonics teaching is of negligible benefit - children are already given plenty of effective phonics teaching. The problem with reading is nothing to do with the amount of teaching that is given on phonics, it is very often down to the fact children don't have ability to use that skill. The process of reading involves working memory, visual processing and other functions, which are all linked to the cerebellum.

When the right parts of the cerebellum are developed we frequently discover that children already have all the phonics teaching they need to be able to read and comprehend far better than before.

We have recently been told that the Government have spent an extra half a billion on programmes to help children, yet they have been completely ineffective. So why, oh why are they now doing more of the same?

If dyslexia wasn’t so serious it would be laughable, but even the American Government makes exactly the same mistakes. The graph below shows how the American Government have dramatically increased spend on literacy programmes without having any effect on reading ability.

When will they realise that they are getting the wrong advice? When will they realise there is a highly effective solution to the root cause of not just reading but for so many of the other symptoms that are linked to learning difficulties?

Thank you for writing this blog on continued focus on cellebellar development toward preparing the abilities of the brain to learn. I have seen growth in my ability to to learn at the cerebellar activation levels. I continue to do the exercises daily. It is a puzzlement to me that this research has been overlooked for so many years. The courage and wisdom to pull the research out of shadows of obscurity is a great accomplishment. Hopefully wise leaders at all levels will learn to support this collaborative and fundamental program based on objective study and great perception that truly promotes medical and social progress for humanity. Thank you especially to the professors, & doctors who understand the humane outcomes of these clinical, neurological mapping techniques that mirror proper pathway development. May the priorities of responsible people discover and support true education thus unlocking the potentialities in every humane frame.

I wrote to you before Christmas thanking you for all you have done for our family and have just received your reply so have been reading your blogs! I have made a new year resolution to tell at least one person a day about the Dore programme and am about to send a copy of your book to a friend in Australia for her birthday. So if the Government won't listen those of us who know it works must spread the word far and wide. Thank you once again for your perseverance and for giving my son back his life.

Dear Winford,

Perhaps I'm being rather cynical but could it be that the government has other reasons for not acknowledging the credibility of the programme.

I have just recently came out of the (UK) armed forces in which I spent 11 years. All types of people join the forces and for all types of reasons.

One of the main reasons however is that if one does poorly at school then the forces appear to be a very attractive option.

It would not surprise me if recruitment for the forces and other low skilled occupations were based upon the need to have a percentage of under achievers within the population.

Perhaps the government are fearfull of integrating a programme which may leave them needing to spend more money in trying to attract personnel for these roles.
